Watch Hill firefighters responded mutual aid to assist the Misquamicut Fire Department this afternoon at a structure fire on Uzzi Avenue.

During an extended period of heavy rain and severe lightning, a lightning strike to the cupola ignited a fire on the second floor of the residence. Upon arrival, heavy black smoke was coming from the eaves and the ridge line and heavy fire was visible in a second floor window.

The fire was quickly extinguished and damage was primarily confined to two of the rooms on the second floor.

Watch Hill firefighters staffing Ladder 104 primarily assisted with ventilation, salvage, and overhaul.

We would like to recognize and salute the solid work by the first arriving Misquamicut firefighters. Their initial rapid attack on the fire was effective and efficient and the fire was knocked down within minutes of arrival and fully extinguished within twenty minutes.
