Full Time Firefighter / EMT Position

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Respond to emergency incidents and service requests during a daytime shift, as directed by the Chief of Department.
•Respond to all types of emergency incidents including but not limited to fire suppression, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous material incidents, searches, technical rescues, water/marine rescues and medical emergencies. Provide appropriate services as required during daytime shifts.
•Drive and operate fire apparatus on emergency calls or at incident scenes.
•Check and maintain trucks, equipment, tools, and apparatus to ensure state of readiness.
•Interact with the public in person and by phone.
•Clean and maintain the station and grounds.
•Assist in other Fire District activities and operations as needed and assigned by the Chief of Department.
•Comply with all department rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
•Strong understanding of fire department operations and standard operating guidelines
•Working knowledge of firefighting techniques and equipment capabilities
•Skills in the application of modern fire prevention and suppression techniques and methods
•Knowledge of building and life safety codes and fire alarm equipment
•Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
•Ability to work effectively with all District and Department members and the general public

HIRING PREREQUISITES/CERTIFICATIONS
•Minimum of three years of experience as a firefighter
•High school diploma or G.E.D.
•United States citizenship (copy of birth certificate or passport required)
•Medical release form and clear background check
•Valid driver’s license
•Firefighter I and II certification
•Must have a R.I. State EMT/ or Cardiac preferred
•RI Boating Safety Card preferred

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS

Work involves standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling lifting, grasping, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motions, often while wearing heavy personnel protective gear, and self-contained breathing apparatus. The work is performed inside and outdoors with exposure to cold, heat, noise, vibration, mechanical and electrical hazards, and atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system.
