Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Chief Robert Peacock
February 16, 2020

Despite the cold weather, Watch Hill Firefighters continue to train daily at noon. This daily training is conducted throughout the year and focuses on reinforcing and practicing their skills and abilities. The goal is to master, refine, and improve the basic skills and abilities that are most often used in a wide variety of emergency situations.

Recent training sessions have focused on reviewing and practicing aerial ladder operations and water pumping operations.

Watch Hill Ladder 104 is a 100 foot aluminum aerial ladder with a 2000 gallon per minute pump, a 500 gallon tank, 128 feet of ground ladders, and 1000 feet of large diameter supply hose.

Commonly this type of fire apparatus is referred to as a Quint. A quintuple combination pumper or simply a Quint is a fire apparatus that serves the dual purpose of a pumper and a ladder truck. The name Quint is is derived from the Latin word quinque which means five and refers to the five functions that a quint is able to provide including a pump, water tank, fire hose, aerial device, and ground ladders.
