WHFD Provides Mutual Aid to Misquamicut Structure Fire
By Deputy Chief Jason Simmons
September 5, 2024
The members of the Watch Hill Fire Department provided automatic assistance to the neighboring Misquamicut Fire Department Thursday night. The WHFD was dispatched for Ladder 104 at 10:38 PM for a reported structure fire at 14 Lawton Avenue. Due to multiple calls from witnesses the WHFD’s response was quickly upgraded to a full assignment and a full 1st Alarm was requested shortly after arrival. All occupants were confirmed out of the home on arrival. Due to the advanced nature of the fire and the collapse of a portion of the building firefighters were forced to resort to defensive measures to prevent extension to surrounding homes. The members worked until the early morning hours to extinguish the stubborn blaze. The Rhode State Fire Marshal will be investigating to help determine a cause.
